Are you experiencing any of the following?

  • Pain at the front of the knee or under the kneecap
  • Pain going up and down stairs or hills
  • Clicking or grating of the knee cap or knee joint

If you answered YES to ANY of the above, you may be suffering from:

ANTERIOR KNEE PAIN

The knee joint is comprised to two joints, the long bones of the leg, the femur and tibia and the patella or knee cap and the femur. Pain can be experienced at the knee cap and cause problems when trying to get up and down stairs, hills or playing sports. This condition is often caused by altered alignment of the foot, ankle and long bones of the leg. This altered alignment causes wear and tear and eventually pain and inflammation.

What can you do?

  • Rest
  • Apply ice in a wet towel to reduce pain and swelling
  • Seek help from a Physiotherapist who can advise on the correct exercise and treatment to prevent unneccesary wear and tear.
  • Gradually return to sport when pain has gone.
  • See your physiotherapist
