Are you experiencing any of the following?

  • Pain in the outside of the elbow which is aggravated when the hand is bent back (extended) at the wrist against a resistance/load.
  • Pain at the bony bit (lateral epicondyle) on the outside of the elbow, or 1-2cm forward of it from the tendon
  • Weakness in the wrist

If you answered YES to ANY of the above, you may be suffering from:

TENNIS ELBOW / LATERAL EPICONDYLITIS

Tennis elbow is a common injury. It is inflammation or degeneration of the tendon that attaches to the bony bit (lateral epicondyle) on the outside of the arm/elbow. A common cause in racket sports is poor backhand technique or a grip that is too small. This means the muscles in the elbow must work harder and become inflamed.

It is also common among office workers, eg: using a computer/mouse with poor forearm support.

What can you do?

  • Rest
  • Braces and supports are available
  • See a physiotherapist for advice on treatment, including ultrasound, laser, massage therapy, acupuncture, ergonomic advice and more!
